Art Epiphany

Today was a GREAT day! I spent the day indoors because I am trying to get over a sore throat. But it rained for most of the day, so I enjoyed being indoors. There is something about being indoors on a rainy day. It seems to inspire me to draw more…as if to say “TWOGIL, you are not missing anything, so you may as well draw.”
Anywho, I spent the daybeing inspired by other artists, listening to iconic podcasts, doodling, and making my first ‘Inspiration Board’. I gave it this catchy title, but it literally is my inspiration board. It has multiple sketches that I have done, a series of patterns from magazines that I like, sketches by other artists that inspire me, and an article on a history-making black female artist named Kara Walker.
While I was putting my ‘Inspiration Board’ together, I drew a doodle with a series of connected swirl-like lines. After finishing the doodle, I found my eyes constantly being drawn back to this doodle. So, I gave in and went back to put some finishing touches on it. I added a linear pattern to it and it turned out beautifully. Then, as I looked at it more, I realized that it was actually an image of a person splashing in water. It had an oriental feel to it and was very clean and streamlined. I will be including a series of pieces in this style for my next show (between May or June of 2008). I will keep you posted.
Have a great night!
